Mental Health Talk
Today, Education & Community Officer Susan Crowley of the Cork Mental Health Foundation visited 5th & 6th class in Scoil na mBuchaillí to talk about mental health, and why it’s important. She spoke how we all have mental health and how important it is to look after our mental health.
The Cork Mental Health Foundation showed an animated video to the pupils to show that even if people online look happy, they might not actually be happy. The video had 2 characters, Sasha and André, they are both friends. The first character, Sasha, was stressed about doing well in school, and would get very upset when she failed a test. She would hold her feelings until she got home. Leading to her crying infront of her mother, she comforted her and gave her a few tips to make her release stress and be happy, and it greatly worked. One of the tips was to do something that she liked such as watching TV to relieve the stress.

The second character however, was dealing with a greater mental health issue . The second character, André, always looked happy on social media, but never actually was. He always had negative thoughts that kept growing and he was always overwhelmed. However, when Sasha opened up to André, he started to tell Sasha his problems. Sasha recommended to André watching tv like she did but it didn’t help him feel better. So eventually Sasha told him that maybe he should talk to a responsible adult. Once he went to his teacher , things got better for him, and he was happier.

Sciath na Scol Match v Ballinora
Our Sciath na Scol team travelled to Ballinora on Wednesday 28th of September to play their first match in three years. Unfortunately after a very close contest we lost by just a few points. It was a very exciting game and the boys were excellent! Many thanks to Mrs. Marie Forristal and Mr. Paul Carmody for accompanying the team on the day.

Apples for Juniors
The Junior Infant boys harvested apples from our apple tree this week. They were delighted to try some apple slices and some stewed apple after their hard work. Yum!
